Near Shore Fish

Here are some of the fish found on our Near Shore Fishing trips:

King Mackerel

The King Mackerel's diet consists mainly of small fish and squid. This Pelagic species spawns in midsummer offshore, lives in northerly waters in the spring, and migrates to south Florida waters in the winter. Though the Atlantic and Gulf populations of King Mackerels are generally separate, they do comingle in the winter past Key West.

Spanish Mackerel

This tasty fish migrates south from its northerly home when the temperature drops below 70F. It spawns offshore spring through summer. In the winter it is found here inlarge schools and can be bated with small fish and squid.

cobia

Cobia

Long powerful runs render the Cobia one of the most aggressive fish out there. It spawns in spring and early summer and feeds on small fish, crabs, and squid.

Black Grouper

The Black Grouper is a protogynous hermaphrodites that starts out female, but becomes male as it grows larger. The larger fish are usually found at greater depths - in deep reefs. The younger fish can be caught inshore and bated with small fish and squid. They spawn between May and August.
